How Much Does Restaurant Social Media Cost? An Honest Guide for Bergen and Rockland Owners

If you own a restaurant, you have probably asked this at least once, usually late at night after closing: how much should social media actually cost me?

The honest answer is a range, and the range is wide. Below is what restaurant social media costs in 2026, what moves the price up or down, what a good package includes, and what we learned running social media for a café and catering kitchen in Cresskill, NJ.

The short answer: $500 to $5,000 a month

Pricing guides published in 2026 say most businesses pay between $500 and $5,000 a month for social media management (SocialRails). Another guide puts a local business on one or two platforms at $2,000 to $5,000 a month (Fresh Content Society). Neither guide explains how its numbers were collected, so treat them as rough bands, not averages.

The spread is not random. Four things decide where your restaurant lands.

What drives restaurant social media cost

Who makes the content. Photos your team takes on a phone cost far less than a planned shoot. A shoot costs more, and it gives you a month of material that looks like your place on its best night.

How much you post, and where. Three posts a week on Instagram is one job. Daily stories, reels and TikTok is a bigger one.

Who answers people. Comments, messages and reviews are where a curious follower turns into a reservation. If someone on the agency side handles them, that time is part of the price.

Ads, which are two costs. One is the fee for running the ads. The other is the ad budget itself, which goes straight to Meta or Google. Ask for both numbers, separately.

What a good restaurant social media package includes

For a neighborhood restaurant, this is the core we would look for:

  • A content plan built around your calendar: holidays, events and menu changes

  • Real photos and video of your food, your room and your team

  • A steady posting rhythm on the one or two platforms your guests actually use

  • Replies to comments and messages within a set time

  • A monthly report with numbers, their dates, and what changes next month

What we learned at MaMi in Cresskill

A plated dish from the kitchen at MaMi in Cresskill, NJ, from a monthly shoot day

MaMi is an Israeli-Mediterranean café, catering and events kitchen in Cresskill, NJ. We plan one shoot day a month, on location. Before each shoot we decide what it should feel like to walk in, and the shot list comes from that answer.

Between March 1 and September 12, 2026, MaMi's posts and reels reached 135.9K views. Its Instagram grew from 2,117 to 4,549 followers between March 19 and October 7, 2026. Five of the six top cities its followers come from are Bergen County towns, and for a restaurant that is the number that matters most. The people following are people who can come in for dinner.

A restaurant online should make you hungry to belong there.

Five questions to ask before you hire a social media manager

  1. Who takes the photos and video, and how often?

  2. Who replies to comments, messages and reviews?

  3. What is the ad management fee, and what is the ad budget?

  4. What will the monthly report show, and can I see an example?

  5. Can I see work you did for a place like mine, with real numbers and dates?

If an offer looks very cheap, ask where the content comes from. Templated graphics and stock photos are quick to make, and your guests can tell.
